Istanbul wants to become a global center for young and innovative cinema. As part of this ambition the 10th AFM International Independent Film Festival’s !f Inspired competition is coming to Istanbul.

Nine films from Turkey and around the world are nominated for the award of “most inspired director” based on criteria of bold storytelling and innovative techniques. The international jury is headed by film director Hüseyin Karabey. The award is a check of $15,000.

Turkey’s nominee is “Atlıkarınca” (Merry Go Round), the second feature film from young director İlksen Başarır. Other films in the competition are “22nd of May” about the aftermath of an explosion at a shopping mall, by acclaimed Belgian director Koen Mortier. The film festival will also feature Michaelangelo Frammartino’s ” Le Quattro Volte”; “Nuummioq”, Greenland’s first Oscar-nominated film, which tells the story of Malik, who is diagnosed with a terminal illness; and “R” about a Danish prison,.
